Scott Tyler is a Bay Area kinetic sculptor who engineers stainless-steel constructions that pivot, tilt, and glide on the faintest currents of air. Trained at his father John Tyler’s studio—renowned for large-scale, air-responsive kinetic works —and often working alongside his brother, fellow sculptor Nate Tyler, he blends precision machining with graceful motion to create a vivid juxtaposition of engineered exactitude and organic drift.
Years spent perfecting advanced mechanical systems have given him an intuitive feel for tolerances, bearings, and balance. Grounded in cognitive-science studies, his practice explores how subtle movement captures attention and reshapes spatial perception. From his coastal workshop he fabricates public installations and private commissions that invite viewers to slow down and witness the invisible forces that animate everyday space.
